ANNAPOLIS FEATURED COMMUNITY | EASTPORT by Brian Jacobs | February 19, 2018 Eastport is a desirable place to live if you are looking for a year round laid back lifestyle with a resort vibe. The town is nautical, peaceful, historic and walkable. Known as the other side of Annapolis by many, Eastport is a coastal neighborhood with diversified housing options. Which side of the harbor do you prefer? Between Spa Creek and Back Creek and across from historic Annapolis, Eastport is a peninsula, making it the ultimate community to dock a boat and/or launch into the Bay. It’s the perfect place to get away from the craziness of downtown but still have a view of the water and history. Eastport is the maritime district of Annapolis largely due to the fact you can rent a canoe, kayak or stand up paddle board in the warmer months and be on your way. Capital SUP, a stand up paddle boarding business, is located in Eastport and very popular among all age groups. Find out more information about this water sport’s local business by reading my previous blog post. In 1868, the first bridge was built to connect downtown to Eastport across Spa Creek. In 1998, the bridge was temporarily shut down for repairs, which did not settle well with the Maritime Republic of Eastport. The “slaughter across the water” , an annual tug of war challenge between downtown Annapolis and Eastport, was born shortly after as one of the many fundraisers sponsored by this organization. Eastport is also popular because it’s home to the Maritime Museum. The Maritime Museum offers daily tours, exhibits, art galleries, lectures and even provides camps for children in the summertime, creating a memorable experience for many Annapolitans and visitors. One of the most impressive things about living or visiting Eastport is getting a chance to dine in one of the many seafood and steakhouse restaurants. Many situated nicely in a row on the waterfront, Eastport restaurants are known by locals and out-of-towners to have some of the best cuisine Annapolis has to offer. My family really enjoys Vin 909 for dinner and Boatyard Bar and Grill for breakfast/brunch on the weekends. The town of Eastport may become even more attractable in the near future with the project completion of the Annapolis Yacht Club, which is forecasted to open in fall of this year. This sailing playground will be located on both sides of the Eastport bridge, making it an exclusive hot spot in Annapolis. There are currently 15 properties on the market in Eastport.
